Plaster Styles

The six plaster styles used by DJJ Italian Plastering are:

Marmorino_StuccoLucidato

The final coat of this plaster is burnished to a glassy sheen and lustre with a smooth touch finish, creating a beautiful, luxurious high gloss look.

Marmorino_StuccoMarmorino Stucco

This provides a versatile finish which can be created to give a smooth, soft patina or a distressed surface. It also allows choice in a wide range of colours.

Metalic_StuccoMetalic Stucco Gold, Silver and Bronze

This very fine plaster gives a metallic shimmer-like finish. The silver plaster can be mixed with other colour pigments for variation.

Grassello PuntinanoGrassello Puntinano

This is a red or green grained plaster, which gives a decorative dotted colour finish.

IntonachinoIntonachino

A coarse plaster creating a granulated, gritty finish used for pitting and travertine (limestone) effects. Colour to clients choice.

StoneMarmorino Limestone, Portland Stone and York Stone

This finish is characteristic of the smooth faux stone pitted appearance seen in much of Venetian architecture. It has a soft patina created by using elements of fine ground marble dust. This makes it ideal for blocking ashlar (tile) effect.

These decorative marble finishes are more durable than any painted surface and offer an infinite variety. Different colours and thicknesses of colour are applied to each plaster coat resulting in a unique finish as with true marble or stone.

It is essential to prepare the surface of each wall before application to achieve a high quality polished and durable finish. Surfaces must be prepared by removing wallpaper, flaking paint or if necessary a fresh skim of plaster to provide a smooth, clean area.

Waxes are used to obtain the polished effect on the final top coat of plaster. When Italian plaster is applied to wet room walls, sealers are also used. These sealers provide water and steam proof protection, ideal for areas such as bathrooms and kitchens. It is also worth noting that as the Ingredients used are natural, this technique is also fungus and mould proof.

The number of layers applied to the surface depends on the complexity and depth of colour desired. On average the minimum requirement of layers needed is three to four.
