Frequently Asked Questions

What is Venetian plaster?

The six Venetian plasters we use are all made from natural ingredients, consisting of fine grasello lime putty, minerals and marble dust, natural earth or oxides are used to add colour pigment to the plaster.

What surfaces are suitable for these Venetian plasters?

The Italian plasters we use can be applied to plastered or painted walls. All surfaces must be clean and free of dust, grease and moisture. Any loose paint or wall paper must be removed; cracks and holes must be prepared and sanded flat before application. Wall fixings, screws, nail heads etc must also be removed.

Does the application of plaster cause much mess?

Not really – you will need the same amount of preparation and protection as if you were painting.

Can Venetian plaster be used in bathrooms and kitchens?

Yes, it’s ideal. Venetian plaster can be used in any room in the house, but in wet rooms a coating of Idro-Fobix wax is applied for protection against water and steam.

What geographical area does DJJ serve?

We are based in the South Hams Devon, between the towns of Kingsbridge and Dartmouth (about one hour’s drive from Plymouth and Exeter) but will travel throughout the South West of England.

Where is the plaster from?

The plaster is imported from Vicenza in northern Italy, west of Venice, from a small-family run company which has been producing high quality lime since 1930. The plasters they produce have been used in the restoration of many of the historic buildings in the area.
